From Slavery to Freedom

From Slavery to Freedom in Ulster County, New York

Between 1799-1848, there was a Gradual Manumission of people of African descent.
Who are they, and where are their descendants now?

In this interactive ArcGIS (Esri) Storymap, we hope to bring to light some of the struggles, successes, and ambiguities faced by the enslaved and free people of African descent of Ulster County, New York as they stepped into a world that, for so long, denied them entrance.
